Foster Avenue Rehabilitation

This project was developed to renew aging infrastructure and to address overflows by reducing the amount of rainfall that can enter the system through defects. It originally consisted of the evaluation of approximately 57,060 linear feet of gravity sewer to determine necessary repairs. The resulting work in the Foster Lane area consists of the rehabilitation of approximately 50,360 linear feet of existing sewer lines by cured-in-place-pipe lining, service replacements by excavation, trenchless service renewals, manhole rehabilitation, and other miscellaneous sewer-related work. As the work in the Foster Lane area concluded, project underruns allowed MWS to add similar work in the Patrica Drive area. That work consists of rehabilitation of approximately 3,700 linear feet of existing sewer lines, along with services and manholes.

The rehabilitation work will primarily occur in easements and public roadways. Construction methods will include trenchless technologies (pipe and manhole lining) to minimize excavation in streets and properties. However, some excavation will be necessary on certain streets, in existing easements, and in public rights-of-way for sewer service renewals to individual properties. Temporary piping for diversion pumping may be installed on the ground. Roadways and properties disturbed by the work will be restored to their original conditions as closely as possible in a manner that will ensure that MWS can maintain future access to the public sewer infrastructure.

The project is expected to last 12 months (Patricia for 3 months), although due to the nature of the work, many locations will not experience any impacts for several months at a time.
