This program is an initiative led by Metro Water Services (MWS) in coordination with partner agencies including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) for the purpose of meeting the Clean Water Act requirements and, in the process, ensuring the environmental health of the Cumberland River and its tributaries for future generations.
Construction began last week on the Mill Creek - Collins Creek Rehabilitation Area 1. This project was developed to renew aging infrastructure and to address downstream overflows by reducing the amount of rainfall that can enter the system through defects. It consists of the evaluation and rehabilitation (as necessary) of approximately 56,300 linear feet of gravity sewer, associated manholes, and service laterals within Metro’s right-of-way and easements.
Construction recently began on the Tuckahoe & Nesbitt Rehabilitation Project. This project was developed to renew aging infrastructure and to address overflows by reducing the amount of rainfall that can enter the system through defects. It is primarily focused on the rehabilitation of over 400 manholes throughout the project area.

On April 23, 2024, Metro Water Services and Metro Parks held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of the Central Dog Park which is adjacent to the Central Water Reclamation Facility at 1616 Third Avenue North. Mayor Freddie O’Connell, Council Member Jacob Kupin, MWS Director Scott Potter, and Metro Parks Director Monique Odom were in attendance.
